Abramson Center Senior Care Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering Opportunities with and for Seniors

Several senior care volunteer opportunities are available at the Abramson Center for Jewish Life. Volunteers share a passion for enhancing the lives of the seniors in our care.

If you have time Volunteers4-RESIZE.jpgto spare, please consider joining any of these opportunities with seniors:

Friendly Visitors: read, play individual games, run group games, and be good listeners.

Hospice Volunteers: assist our residents, as well as our hospice patients living in the community, by providing companionship, friendly visiting, and respite for family caregivers. Training provided.

Escorts: Volunteers are needed to transport senior residents and patients to and from programs, beauty shop, meals, and worship services.

Sewers and Menders: help mend residents’ clothes that are still in good condition, but need a face lift.

Librarians: assist in organizing and managing the Abramson Center library.

Multigenerational Activities: Volunteer with both seniors and children to help prepare and run artistic programs.

Football Lovers: Calling all football lovers! Watch the games and enjoy munchy Sunday food with other fans by organizing our Football Club.

Office Support: assist with light filing and basic office tasks, including some computer work.

General Activities and Games: play Bingo, checkers, chess, gin, bridge, Mah Jongg, pinochle, Scrabble - you name it.

Volunteers2-RESIZE.jpgYiddish Club: converse, read, and listen to music in Yiddish with our residents.

Project ShEMA: (Sharing and Enriching through Multigenerational  Activities) brings together people of all ages for meaningful and mutually rewarding activities such as Shabbat and holiday celebrations, concerts, arts and crafts, gardening, pet therapy, special mitzvah projects, or just friendly visits and warm conversation. After three visits to the nursing home to take part with residents in Project ShEMA, students receive beautiful certificates to be presented in synagogue on their Bar or Bat Mitvah.

Mitvah Program: young adults who are interested in volunteering with seniors to gain service to meet the service requirement for their Bar or Bat Mitvah.
