Elaine Brody, MSW, DSc (Hon.)
Elaine Brody, DSc (Hon.) is the former Associate Director of Research of the Polisher Research Institute, and a past president of the Gerontological Society of America. She is also a former Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, and former Associate Professor of Social Work in Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania.
A pioneer in gerontological social work, Dr. Brody is widely known for her groundbreaking research on the effects of caregiving on the families of dependent older adults. Her research on the subject, published in numerous scientific and consumer publications and books, has benefited older adults and their caregivers, and provided valuable instruction to scientists and researchers.
Dr. Brody has also used her research to advocate for changes to health policy related to healthcare and aging. Over the course of her career, which spans more than three decades, she has shared her insights on aging before Congress and at universities, foundations, hospitals, and governmental and voluntary agencies across the country. In the words, of her peers, her work has provided the foundation on which much of current aging research is based, and its impact is beyond measure.
