Horsham, Pa. - Dr. Cindy Jones (second from left), a leading educator on sexualities and dementia from Australia, was welcomed to the Abramson Center for Jewish Life on Monday, August 28th by (left) Carol A. Irvine, president and CEO; Kimberly Van Haitsma, Ph.D., vice president and director of the Polisher Research Institute; Janice Whitaker, MEd, BSN, RN, project administrator at the Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, College of Nursing, The Pennsylvania State University; and Karen Eshraghi, MSW, quality improvement coordinator.
Dr. Jones, a research fellow with the Menzies Health Institute Queensland, gave a presentation entitled, “The Elephant in the Room: Sexual Expression of People with Dementia.” Residents, employees, colleagues and family members attended Dr. Jones informative presentation. Group discussions for both employees and residents of the Abramson Center followed the presentation. The event was hosted by the Abramson Center and by Penn State College of Nursing’s Center of Gerontological Nursing Excellence and Center for Nursing Research.
