Through the Victor and Sara Schwartz Religious Life Program, Jewish festivals are celebrated with familiar foods and enriching programs, enabling residents to celebrate their heritage and renew lifetime traditions. Our chaplaincy staff attends to the spiritual needs and provides pastoral care to all our residents and their families in response to loss and life changes. Future rabbis and chaplains receive important training and experience in the complex issues of aging through rabbinic internships in pastoral care offered by the Abramson Center for Jewish Life and the Center's Martha and Harry Stern Memorial Rabbinic Internship Program. Students from synagogue youth groups, religious schools and Jewish day schools throughout Greater Philadelphia visit with residents as part of the Center's Project SHEMA (SHaring and Enriching through Multigenerational Activities) program. Through this unique multigenerational experience, our elders are provided with a valuable opportunity to pass along Jewish traditions and values to the youngsters, many of whom are studying for bar and bat mitzvah. In return, the youngsters receive a rewarding opportunity to learn from our residents and to experience the joy of performing mitzvot.
