Researchers at the Madlyn and Leonard Abramson Center for Jewish Life's
Polisher Research Institute were pioneers in recognizing that caring at home
for an elderly relative can be stressful. That role has become even more
demanding in today's fast-paced world, where a caregiver may be juggling the
needs of their children and spouse, a job, and care of an older relative.
Family caregivers who are caring for elders living in their own homes or in
senior communities may benefit from the following programs and resources:
Counseling for Caregivers program offers support, guidance, and connects
family caregivers with essential resources.
Helen L. Weiss Senior Day Program provides a safe, cheerful environment for
frail seniors to spend the day, giving the caregiver some respite from daytime
caregiving duties.
Abramson Hospice provides a wide range of services for people of
all ages who are facing terminal illness and is based on the Abramson Center’s
exceptional experience in providing palliative care. Our hospice team is
specially trained to support and honor Jewish beliefs and practices surrounding
illness, death, and mourning.
Abramson Home Care provides an array of health-related and homemaker services into the home, enabling the care recipient to be in familiar surroundings.
Birnhak Transitional Care provides short-term nursing, medical, and rehabilitative care designed to help patients get stronger and be more fully recovered after hospitalization, but before they return home.
Palliative Dementia Care Resources Online
provides family members and professionals caring for persons with dementia who
have serious illness with information, news, and a forum to exchange ideas in
one easy-to-use free Web site.
Developed and maintained by our Polisher Research Institute, the Web site was
created through a grant from the Farber Family Foundation of Philadelphia.
